First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Romeo Mikoutadze got acquainted with the results of the reconstruction works carried out in the territory of the “Gardabani-500” substation.
“Gardabani-500” is a key substation for the energy supply of the country. During the winter period, when the generation of hydroelectric power plants in Georgia decreases, the substation provides 60-70% of electricity consumption in the energy system of Georgia at the expense of heating plants and transit power lines.
According to the statement of the First Deputy Minister, the implementation of large-scale works in the substation contributed to the increase of the capacity of the substation.
“After the completion of the project, between the energy systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan, it will be possible to exchange 1000 MW of power smoothly, both in the direction of export-import and transit,” said Romeo Mikoutadze.
According to him, the implementation of the project, the budget of which was about 20 million GEL, will help increase the reliability of synchronous operation with Azerbaijan. Moreover, according to the First Deputy Minister, the completion of the project, especially during the winter season, will significantly increase the country’s stable electricity supply.
